Des Moines, Iowa – All-American Risper Kimaiyo returned to the annual Drake Relays to earn her second crown on Thursday.

The senior was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 5,000m registering a time of 16:18.00.

“The first eight laps, I felt like I opened the gap,” said Kimaiyo. “But towards the end she (Victoria Voronko) started closing the gap and I just kept pushing and she then dropped.”

For the men’s team, Elphas Maiyo ran a tough race from start to end. The sophomore was leading most of the race until the final two laps, where all the competitors dashed to the finish line. The distance runner finished in 11th place posting a personal best of 14:25.76 in the 5,000m.
