Rotich Wins Men's 1,500m at Texas Relays

EL PASO – Sophomore Elkana Rotich won the men’s 1,500-meter run in day three of the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.

Rotich claimed the Miners’ lone title of the day with a time of 3:47.88.

Justice Chirchir finished fourth in the 1,500 crossing the finish line at 3:49.19.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay posted the second-best performance of the day clocking in a time of 3:10.46. Leon Dillihunt, Anderson Mutegi, Jacob Garcia and Curtis Kock will return to the track tomorrow at 4:45 p.m. (CT) for the final.

On the field events Tako Niare placed third in the women’ high jump with a distance of 1.65m (5-05) and Richard Olsson finished 11th in the men’s javelin with a mark of 65.98m (216-06).

A pair of distance runners closed action for the day in the 3,000-meter steeplechase races. Gladys Chumba was fourth with a time of 11:09.29 in the women’s race and Robert Menjo was fifth in the men’s event completing the race in 9:14.09.

The Miners will return to action tomorrow at noon to close out the final day of competition in the Texas capital.
