Don Kirby Results
Albuquerque, N.M. - The UTEP track and field team concludes action at the Don Kirby Invitational on Saturday in Albuquerque, N.M.
El Paso native Juan Blanco took gold in a photo finish in the men’s 800m. The freshman posted a time of 1:53.55 out running Alexander Korn from West Texas A&M.
Senior Matt Dudley takes first place in the men’s discus registering a mark of 51.38m (168-07).
Freshman Abiola Onakoya took bronze in the men’s 400m clocking in a time of 46.96. Teammate Curtis Kock also competed in the 400m and finished fourth overall with a time of 47.11, while Kristian Dillard posted a personal-best of 48.62.
Anthony Wright was the first Miner to cross the finish line in the men’s 100m posting a time of 10.71, while senior Suji Adeniyan registered a time of 10.91.
Ramon Garcia was the eighth collegiate runner to cross the finish line in the 1,500m recording a time of 4:04.04.
Wrapping up the men’s side was freshman Elphas Maiyo who competed in the men’s 3,000m and registered a time of 8:56.57 taking fifth-place at the meet.
On the women’s side, Jackline Ekai finished first out of 42 runners in the 800m with a personal-best of 2:13.47.
Janice Jackson crossed the finish line seventh overall in the women’s 200m with a personal-best time of 24.37.
Representing the Miners in the women’s 400m hurdles was Samantha Sharper and Jallycia Pearson posting times of 1:03.68 and 1:04.47, respectively.
On the field, freshman Taylor Gunn took fourth-place in the discus with a mark of 43.41m (142-05). Teammate Aisha Lee finished seventh with a toss of 39.55m (129-09).
UTEP will return home to host the UTEP Invitational on Saturday, April 14 at Kidd Field scheduled to start at 10 a.m. (MT).
