EL PASO – UTEP’s Blessing Okagbare set a new meet and stadium record in the long jump on Friday afternoon at the Texas Relays.
Okagbare leaped to a world’s best mark this season of 6.88 meters (22-07.00) to claim the title and break Texas’ Marshevet Hooker’s previous meet and stadium standards of 6.65m (21-10).
A pair of relay squads advanced to Saturday’s finals. The women’s 4x100m relay made up of Gladys Nwaubani, Endurance Abinuwa, Siobhian Crain and Okagbare clocked in a 45.55, the day’s seventh-best performance, to move into tomorrow’s final.
Suji Adeniyan, Anderson Mutegi, Curtis Kock and Ronalds Arajs qualified for the men’s 400-meter relay with a time of 40.77.
Tako Niare tied for silver in the women’s high jump posting a mark of 1.66m (5-05.25). Amanda Apodaca tied for eighth in the event with a leap of 1.61m (5-03.25). In the javelin, Laura Macauley was fifth with a throw of 45.16m (148-02).
Still to compete is the men’s sprint medley scheduled for 7:30 tonight.
