Grant Jumps to the Top at the UNM Classic

Albuquerque, N.M. – In the first day of the New Mexico Classic, Donovant Grant took first in the men’s long jump.
The senior was the top jumper in the firs flight of the long jump and went on to win the event with a mark of 7.32m (24-00.25). Grant defeated 22 competitors with his final jump of the night.
Finishing right behind grant is teammate Mark Jackson, who also participated in the first flight of the evening. The Texas transfer registered a jump of 7.27m (23-10.25) in his third attempt of the day.
Also competing in jumps was El Paso native Xavier Baker, who posted a mark of J2.04m (6-08.25). Baker took third place at the meet defeating a total of 12 jumpers in the Miners second competition of the year.
In the men’s weight throw, Demetris Elia recorded a toss of 17.69m (58-00.50) finishing in fourth place.
On the women’s side, two Miners finished in the top eight in the long jump. Newcomer Nickevea Wilson posted a mark of 5.61m (18-05.00) taking sixth overall. Monica Lopez was eighth out of 28 jumpers with a jump of 5.37m (17-07.50) registered in her first attempt.
