To all UTEP athletic enthusiasts interested in seeing their sports heroes honored in the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame, we cordially invite your participation in the nomination of persons you consider worthy of such a tribute during the coming year. The UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame was created in 2002 and is housed in the Larry K. Durham Sports Center. 

Nominations for 2013 will be accepted through April 19, 2013.

The criteria for being considered for selection to the UTEP Athletics Hall of Fame are as follows:

INDIVIDUAL UTEP STUDENT-ATHLETE OR COACH

Individuals shall be eligible for selection of they have met all of the following criteria.

1. Athletic Accomplishment

  • Participated as a student-athlete at The University of Texas at El Paso
  • Been named 1st team "All America." or...
  • Won an NCAA/AIAW national championship, or...
  • Set a world record, or...
  • Participated in the Olympic Games, or...
  • Led the nation in a recognized statistical category, or...
  • Succeeded as a professional athlete, or...
  • Any male or female athlete who distinguished themself and the University, or...
  • Did the coach render extraordinary service and leadership, or...
  • Career Records, or...
  • Coaching National Titles, or...
  • Developer of student-athletes, or...
  • National achievements, such as, coach of the year

 

2. Academic Standing

  • To be eligible for selection, a former student-athlete shall have been in good academic standing during their enrollment.

3. Good Citizenship

  • The individual must posses and shall have possessed such qualities as sportsmanship, character and integrity. The individual must not have been convicted of or plead guilty to any criminal activity.

4. Eligibility Waiting Period

  • A former student-athlete shall be first eligible for selection five (5) full academic years after completing his/her eligibility at the University.
  • If a student-athlete has left the University prior to completion of eligibility, the five-year waiting period shall have begun at the end of the fourth academic year following their initial enrollment at The University of Texas at El Paso or any other university or junior college.

FULL VARSITY-LEVEL TEAMS AND SUB-INDIVIDUAL TEAMS

A Full Varsity-Level Team and a Sub-Individual Team (i.e., swimming and track and field relay teams or tennis doubles teams, et.) shall be eligible for selection if they have met all of the following criteria.

1. Athletic Accomplishment

  • A Full Varsity-Level Team and a Sub-Individual Team that wins an NCAA/AIAW national championship shall be eligible for automatic induction into the UTEP Athletic Hall of Fame.

2. Good Citizenship

  • The teams must posses and shall have possessed such qualities as sportsmanship, character and integrity. The team members must not have been convicted of or plead guilty to any criminal activity.

3. Eligibility Waiting Period

  • A team shall be automatically inducted when ALL of its members have satisfied the individual five-year waiting requirement set forth above.

UTEP ADMINISTRATION AND STAFF

Former administrators and staff who have rendered extraordinary service or leadership to the UTEP athletic program shall be eligible for consideration. All criteria and qualifications are based upon the candidate's participation while serving The University of Texas at El Paso. However, accomplishments prior or after leaving UTEP may be an important part of consideration. The following criteria should be considered as a guide in determining extraordinary service or leadership.

1. Athletic Accomplishment

  • Did the person render extraordinary service and leadership?
  • Direction of the overall Program under their administration
  • Facilities developed
  • People hired
  • Programs started/developed
  • National achievement and involvement
  • Length of distinguished service.

2. Good Citizenship

  • The individual must posses and shall have possessed such qualities as sportsmanship, character and integrity. The individual must not have been convicted of or plead guilty to any criminal activity.

3. Eligibility Waiting Period

  • There is no prescribed waiting period for former UTEP administrators and staff members eligible, except that the UTEP administrator and staff must have ended their respective tenures at the University before they are eligible for induction.

OTHER INDIVIDUALS

Individuals who are not eligible for selection under the other categories may be eligible nonetheless if they contributed extraordinary and significantly to the advancement of intercollegiate athletics at The University of Texas at El Paso.

1. Good Citizenship

  • The individual must posses and shall have possessed such qualities as sportsmanship, character and integrity. The individual must not have been convicted of or plead guilty to any criminal activity.

2. Eligibility Waiting Period

  • There is no prescribed waiting period for eligible individuals. The attached form is for your use in nominating former UTEP student-athletes, coaches, UTEP administration and staff and other individuals who contributed to the UTEP Athletics program.
