Candice Villegas is in her first year as an assistant athletic trainer at UTEP. A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Villegas completed her undergraduate work at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and earned her BA in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training.

She then returned to California to complete her MA at San Diego State University which focused on Kinesiology with a concentration in Biomechanics.

Following the completion of her master's degree, Villegas worked at Rice University in Houston, Texas, with the volleyball, cross country, and track teams.

In 2008, she accepted a teaching position in Japan and lived in Kochi Prefecture for two years. After returning to the United States in July of 2010, Villegas completed an Athletic Training fellowship at the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. In addition to working with the UW LA Crosse gymnastics and softball teams, she also co-lectured two undergraduate athletic training classes.
