Tony Cordova is in his sixth year as an assistant athletic trainer for UTEP. He has worked with the men's basketball team since starting at UTEP for the 2006-07 academic year, and he has been a Certified Athletic Trainer for the past 13 years.
A native of El Paso, Cordova did his undergraduate work as a student athletic trainer at UTEP under Dawn Hearn. He earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology in 1997. He then went on to the University of New Mexico as a graduate assistant for the football team while receiving his master's degree in sport administration.
Following his time with UNM, Cordova accepeted a job as minor league athletic trainer with the Los Angles Dodgers. He worked with the Dodger Organization for the ensuing seven years.
Cordova was in Rookie ball in Yakima, Wash., for a season, AA in Jacksonville, Fla., for five seasons, and ended in AAA Las Vegas, Nevada. In his last season with the organization, Cordova was promoted to the minor League Athletic Training coordinator, and was voted the Pacific Coast League Athletic Trainer of the Year.
Cordova and his wife, Allison, have a daughter, Maris Amelia.
