Kelli Willingham Women's Basketball
The sophomore guard helped the Miners to a pair of wins, improving them to 10-0 on the year. Willingham opened the week by flirting with a double-double (eight points, nine assists) while also grabbing five rebounds in helping UTEP down Northern Colorado, 74-51, on Dec. 13. She then tallied a team & personal season-high 18 points to go along with five rebounds in the 68-48 romp at LMU. Willingham nailed 4-of-7 from three-point range against the Lions. For the week she compiled 10 total assists-to only one turnover, with 13.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg in 27.0 mpg.
Michael Perez Men's Basketball
Perez averaged 17.5 points for the week as UTEP split two games. The Miners lost at UNLV, 65-54, on Wednesday before posting their largest margin of victory of the season with an 87-57 conquest of Southern University on Saturday at the Don Haskins Center. Perez has led the Miners in scoring in three of the last four games. He tallied 17 points at UNLV as UTEP hung with the Runnin' Rebels up until the final two minutes. Perez scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half against Southern. He made 13-of-24 shots (.542), 3-of-5 three pointers (.600) and 6-of-7 free throws (.857) in the two games while also averaging 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals.
