Vince Hunter showed off his potential of being a big-time player by reaching double disfigures in a pair of games over the weekend. After scoring four points in the opener, Hunter poured in 16 points, including going 8-of-12 at the charity stripe, while also grabbing three boards in the whistle-laden setback at NM State on Nov. 15.

Hunter followed that up with a near double-double (14 points, eight rebounds) in 31 minutes of action against West Alabama on Nov. 17. He earned 10 trips the charity stripe and also blocked a pair of shots.

For the week Hunter nailed 81.8 percent (9-of-11) of his tries from the field. He also averaged 5.5 boards and had a trio of assists.

Kayla Thornton, Women's Basketball
Kayla Thornton posted a pair of double-doubles and the Miners routed NM State, 94-69, & Big 12 member Kansas State, 84-39, to improve to 3-0 on the year.

Thornton set the tone early against the Aggies with the first six points in an eventual wire-to-wire win. She finished with 22 points & 12 boards, while also recording three assists and two steals.

She was instrumental in guiding UTEP past the Wildcats, piling up 15 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in just 19 minutes of action. In the first half alone Thornton contributed 10 points and eight rebounds, with her energy setting the tone for the Miners & aiding them to their largest halftime lead (33) vs. a D1 foe in program history.

Thornton now has 23 career double-doubles, which is a school record & ranks tied for 15th in C-USA history. The previous record holder at the school was Amy Pack (1999-01) with 22.
