Aaron Jones, Football
Aaron Jones set a career high with 186 yards rushing at Rice over the weekend, surpassing his previous best (127) against New Mexico State on Sept. 7. He is the first Miner freshman with three 100-yard games in a year since John Harvey notched four in 1985. Aiding Jones' big day was an 81-yard run in the second quarter, which was a career long and the eighth-longest run in school annals. Jones, who leads all freshmen in the nation in rushing, is the initial UTEP freshman to pace the team in the category in six of the first seven games of the season.

Lauren Katada helped UTEP go 2-0-0 at home over the weekend (W, 2-0 vs. UTSA, 10/25 & W, 2-1 vs. Colorado College, 10/27), to clinch not only a bid but also a first-round bye for the 2013 C-USA Women's Soccer Championships (Nov. 4-10-hosted by Rice).

Katada scored in both matches while also assisting on the game-winning goal against the Tigers. She showed off her skills against UTSA by using some fancy dribbling and good effort to beat a couple of defenders and create open space. As she was prepared to rifle a shot, a Roadrunner defender tripped her, and the official was quick to award the PK. Katada calmly converted it to give UTEP the 2-0 lead.

In the match-up against the Tigers, who had been riding an 11-match unbeaten streak, Katada tied the contest at 1 with a precise strike on yet another PK. She was in the role of playmaker in the second half, setting up Angela Cutaia's match winner on a set piece in the 63rd minute. She served a beautiful ball from the right wing, and Cutaia hammered home the header past a diving Kate Scheele with 27 minutes to play in regulation.
