Junior Luke Ovenden carded a nine-over par 225 (77-77-71) to earn a share of 24th place among a competitive field at the Wolf Pack Classic in Stateline, Nev., from Oct. 3-4. Ovenden was at his best in the final round of the event, firing a one-under-par 71 to help the UTEP men's golf team record its lowest team score (303) of the tournament. The effort was one stroke shy of his low career round (70), which he achieved at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate and the William H. Tucker Invitational during the 2010-11 season.
Xitlali Herrera- Volleyball
Xitlali Herrera was a factor at the net for the Miners, helping UTEP finish 2-0 with back-to-back matches against Memphis to set a 15-5 overall record for the second time in program history since 1996. The sophomore had a stellar performance this weekend averaging 1.33 blocks per set, as she recorded a match-high eight blocks against the Tigers. On Friday, Herrera was not only a wall at the net but she also registered a double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs while averaging a .483 hitting percentage. The Mexican native didn't stop there, on Saturday Herrera recorded a team-best 13 digs and 13 kills to post her seventh double-double of the season. Herrera added four blocks and recorded a .480 hitting average with only one error. The sophomore guided the Miners' defense to hold Memphis to a .138 hitting percentage.
