Anthony Rotich Cross Country
At the Notre Dame Adidas Classic that featured eight of Division I's top 30 squads including two top-10 programs and defending meet champion Chris O'Hare of Tulsa, it was UTEP's Anthony Rotich who crossed the finish line first. The sophomore completed the 8K course in 24:18.6 to finish four seconds ahead of returning cross country All-American and 2013 indoor & outdoor 5000 meters All-American Luke Caldwell of New Mexico. The All-American earned his fourth gold medal finish of the season at the Notre Dame Adidas Classic and has claimed three Conference USA Athlete of the Week honors.
Azia Nicholson scored a pair of goals over the weekend to help the UTEP soccer team maintain its unbeaten road record in 2013. The senior got pulled the Miners even at UAB by finishing a cross from Jade Babcock in an eventual 1-1 tie on Oct. 4. She then showed a flair for the dramatic by providing a golden goal- also on a feed from Babcock- in UTEP's 2-1 OT triumph at FAU. The efforts improved the Miners to 5-0-1 on the road this year, matching the longest unbeaten streak in hostile territory in program history.
