Sept. 26, 2011 Vernon Frazier - FOOTBALL Vernon Frazier posted a career-best 177 kickoff return yards in Saturday's game at USF, a mark that tied for the fourth-best single game total in school history. Frazier's first punt return was for 67 yards, a field position that led to a UTEP touchdown. The Duncanville, Texas native followed with returns of 37, 28, 24 and 21 yards, respectively. Frazier ranks seventh in the country and first in C-USA in kickoff return average (33.1 avg.) and has had a 40-yard return in all four games this season (50 versus Stony Brook, 43 at SMU, 48 at NM State, 67 at USF). He has produced 12 of UTEP's 34 20-yard plus plays of 2011 - all kickoff returns (2-50+, 2-40+, 3-30+, 5-20+). Tess Hall - SOCCER Junior Tess Hall was involved in three of the four goals for UTEP, helping it open up Conference USA play at 2-0-0. Hall calmly converted a penalty kick with a shot into upper 90's country for the lone tally in a 1-0 triumph against Marshall on Friday. She was instrumental in the Miners' 3-2 win against East Carolina as well. With the match tied (1-0) UTEP earned a free kick from the right wing. Hall played a perfect ball into the area, which was one-timed home by Azia Nicholson. Less than two minutes later, the Miners had another free kick. Hall sent a pass to Katie Dorman, who headed home the shot for the eventual game-winning goal. The Miners are now 8-2-1 on the year, and they have gone 5-0-1 over their past six matches. |
