Abiola Onakoya, Men's Track & Field
Abiola Onakoya dominated the competition for the Miners taking the track in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay. The junior kicked off the UTEP Invitational clocking in the ninth-fastest time in the nation of 46.22 in the 400m. The sprinter went on to compete in the 200m for the first time this season and registered a personal best of 20.83. His time also earned him the No. 18 spot in the national rankings, thus far. Onakoyo concluded the meet as anchor for the 4x400m relay, which proved to be a close race. The Nigerian native led the squad to a second place finish with a split of 45.5 and helped the relay team end the race with an overall time of 3:09.85. The junior is now ranked first in Conference USA in both the 200m and 400m dash.
Yolanda Suggs, Women's Track & Field
Senior Yolanda Suggs competed for the final time at Kidd Field in the Orange and Blue. The sprinter stormed past the competition in the 200m posting a personal best of 23.60 claiming the top spot on the medal stand. Her time also secured her the No. 44 spot in the national rankings and ranks her third in Conference USA. The women's 4x100m relay continues to improve race after race. Suggs led the team to a second place finish with a season-best time of 44.81 securing them the third spot in the C-USA performance list. The senior went on to take the track in the 4x400m relay and helped the squad clock in a time of 3:52.42.
