Julian Washburn, Men's Basketball
Julian Washburn helped lead the men's basketball team into the Conference USA semifinals with a 20-point effort against Houston. He was one of six Miners to reach double figures in the game, but was instrumental by playing all 40 minutes while also grabbing three boards and blocking two shots. UTEP was ousted in the semifinals by Southern Miss, with foul trouble plaguing Washburn allowing USM to get on a roll offensively. Washburn battled through the infractions to tally 13 points while also pitching in three boards and a pair of helpers.
Alanna Leasau, Softball
Alanna Leasau had a big-time offensive effort at the Jackson State tournament. She blasted three home runs and drove in 10 runs over the weekend. She was a terror for opposing pitchers over the weekend, particularly in the 12-9 triumph against Mississippi Valley State. The junior became the first Miner in program history to hit two grand slams in a game, the second coming in the bottom of the seventh. She finished with eight RBI in the contest, which sets a school standard. The prior mark was held by former Miner great Stacie Townsend and Simone Holland, who each recorded seven.
