John Bohannon, Men's Basketball
Bohannon posted the most dominating game by a UTEP big man in almost 40 years against Houston, and had a near double-double in only 20 minutes versus Rice as the Miners completed a 2-0 week. In a 63-53 victory over the Cougars, Bohannon established career-highs for points (24) and rebounds (17), shooting 8-for-14 from the field and 8-for-10 from the line. He added three assists, four blocks and two steals. The last UTEP player to have as many as 24 points and 17 rebounds in the same game was All-American Jim Barnes versus Texas A&M (42 points/19 rebounds) in the NCAA Tournament on March 9, 1964 at Dallas. Bohannon followed that up with a perfect shooting day at Rice. He was 4-for-4 from the line and 2-for-2 from the line, scoring 10 points with eight rebounds in a half-game of work. For the week, Bohannon averaged 17 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.5 steals, making 12-of-18 shots (.667) and 10-of-12 free throws (.833).
Rebeca Calvillo, Women's Tennis
Junior Rebeca Calvillo remained undefeated at the No. 1 singles spot by beating Natalie Heffron in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, improving to 6-0 (10-2 overall). Her efforts helped the Miners (6-6) post a come-from-behind 4-3 victory against Colorado State on March 3. UTEP's six wins on the year triple its efforts from the 2012 dual-match campaign.
