11/3/14Camilla Carrera Softball Camilla Carrera batted a team-high .692 and slugged 1.769, leading the Miners to a 4-0 opening weekend of the 2012 campaign. The senior slugger was 6-of-9 in 13 at bats that included four home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs and she tallied a .750 on base percentage. The starting first baseman also registered 12 putouts while staying flawless in errors over the weekend.
Carrera opened the season going 4-for-4 against Santa Clara, including a home run leading UTEP to an 11-3 five inning victory in its season opener. The senior registered a double in the outing and hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the fifth for the run rule triumph.
The Arizona native followed with a 4-for-4 performance on Friday against St. Mary's that included two long balls good for three RBIs and two runs scored. Carrera also laced a double against the Gaels. She continued her stellar performance on Saturday, going 1-for-2 at the plate, blasting her fourth homer of the season, good for three runs, against Illinois-Chicago. The senior utility scored two runs and drew two walks. Carrera capped off the weekend drawing a walk against Santa Clara.
Anthony Rotich Men's Track & Field Anthony Rotich recorded an outstanding performance at the Husky Classic, posting the nation's 24th-best time in the men's 5000m clocking in a time of 14:02.16. The freshman jumped to the No. 1 spot in the league for his showing at the classic. The Kenyan native has surpassed the C-USA championship record and holds the No. 8 spot in program history in the men's indoor 5000m run.
