McKenzie Moore, Men's Basketball
McKenzie Moore buried a three-pointer from about 25 feet as time expired, giving UTEP a 68-67 win at East Carolina on Saturday. The Miners handed the Pirates only their second loss in 12 home games, while holding them under 70 points for the second time at Minges Coliseum this season. Moore made 7-of-12 shots and 3-of-4 three pointers, scoring 17 points and pulling down eight rebounds in 32 minutes. He established season-highs for points and minutes. Moore also drained a jumper with 19 seconds left to tie the game at 65. After ECU's Miguel Paul drove for a layup to give the Pirates a 67-65 lead with 4.4 seconds left, Moore inbounded the ball to Jacques Streeter, who drew two defenders and passed it back to Moore for the winning basket just past the halfcourt line.
Anete Steinberga, Women's Basketball
Anete Steinberga registered back-to-back solid games, including a double-double at Houston, to help UTEP post a pair of wins. She started the week off with 10 points and five boards at Rice (1/24/13), including the game winning lay-up with 10 seconds left. The lone senior on the roster followed it up with her second double (20/12) of the campaign in leading the Miners to a win against the Cougars. She hit 9-of-17 shots in the game, and also maneuvered through foul problems.
