Kayla Thornton helped extend UTEP to a perfect 4-0 start to Conference USA play by averaging 15 points & 8.5 rebounds in 31.5 minutes of action. She opened the week by tallying 17 points, including a perfect 7-of-7 from the free-thrown line, while also grabbing eight rebounds in the Miners' 67-56 conquest of Tulsa. Five of her eight boards were of the offensive variety. She then followed that performance up by scoring 13 points and adding nine rebounds in playing a key role to the Miners' come-from-behind 65-64 OT triumph at Tulane. Thornton nailed her first three pointer of the season the 12-3 game-closing UTEP run to pull her squad even for the first time, and then blocked a shot to officially send it to OT.
